During our three hour hands-on, we got the chance to explore the world and take on whatever missions we wanted. During that, we managed to recruit a cat companion for our longboat. You can see the entire thing play out in the video below:
Cats don’t do much raiding - they mainly just curl up in a ball at the front of the ship, but hey, that’s moral support. Also they keep all of your crewmates company - being at sea can be tiring, so having a feline friend onboard certainly makes things a bit nicer. If you’re keen to hear more about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, check out our hands-on impressions, in which we concluded it’s a bit more Witchery than it is Assassin’s Creedsy. Aside from raider cats, we learned about a couple of other games during Ubisoft Forward too. Watch Dogs Legion got an official release date and is scheduled to launch on October 29. As a matter of fact, we’ve got a preview of that, too. Meanwhile, the main show concluded with the announcement of Far Cry 6. It stars Giancarlo Esposito - who you might know as Gus Fring from Breaking Bad - and you can recruit a sausage dog called Chorizo. Viking raider cats in Assassin’s Creed and lovely sausage dogs in Far Cry - it seems developers are finally realizing how important it is to have pettable animals in games. Maybe that’s why you can pet the cat in Cyberpunk 2077, and you can pet the fox in Ghost of Tsushima.
