Given the complete contrast of genres, crossover between The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 seemed unlikely, though then again so did Monster Hunter: World and Soulcalibur 6. Nonetheless, Cyberpunk game director Adam Badowski had previously made known that he was totally against any kind of crossover. Meanwhile, Doug Cockle - Geralt of Rivia’s voice actor - had also confirmed that he wasn’t asked by CD Projekt Red to do any voice work for the game, dashing any hopes of a cameo in the sci-fi blockbuster. So it’s perhaps a surprise that some players have already discovered that there are a few Witcher-related Easter eggs in Night City. The first one can be found by opening a desk drawer, which reveals an old Retro Gaming magazine, sporting none other than Ciri from The Witcher 3. Given how other players found this near the beginning of their playthrough, this shouldn’t be a hard one to track down. Out in Night City, you’re also likely to come across a cringingly pornographic billboard your eyes (and ears) won’t be able to miss advertising a service called ‘MilfGuard’ (get it?). However, there’s another more obscure easter egg that requires a more inquisitive player to track down. It’s no surprise then that this discovery was made by The Gamer’s Cian Maher - the self-confessed world’s greatest Witcher fan. In his article, Maher details his exploits over Night City in the hunt for easter eggs where he came across a smuggler’s cache. It doesn’t sound like much, but Witcher fans will be very familiar with these where they’re scattered all over the isles of Skellige. As Maher explains, “Smuggler’s caches have become pretty infamous among Witcher fans precisely because of how many of them are in The Witcher 3. CD Projekt Red obviously recognizes that slagging off smuggler’s caches has become a bit of a trend in the community, which is probably why it put one single smuggler’s cache - yes, a proper Witcher 3 one - in Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City.” Located in the water beneath a bridge linking Pacifica and Heywood, the cache even includes a corpse carrying a ‘Drowned Man’s Note’, which alludes to the obsession of finding these smuggler’s caches as “a cruel, ludicrous game”. It’s fair to say the most obscure Witcher easter egg, and if the world’s greatest Witcher fan wasn’t able to find anymore, then it might be safe to say that’s it. Still, as the game’s only just launched, we may still discover more. Meanwhile, those craving for a bit more of Geralt in Cyberpunk could always wait for mod support to come to PC, as Witcher 3 modding project Wolvenkit is being upgraded to support Cyberpunk mods in the future. If you connect your copy of Cyberpunk 2077 to GOG Galaxy, you’ll also be able to unlock a couple of Witcher-inspired in-game items. Those just starting out can also learn about which life path you should choose before you begin your story in Night City. Whether or not you find any more Witcher references, you’ll nonetheless find that Cyberpunk 2077 has plenty of other gaming cameos - and a lot of dildos.
